Every year on September 5, an iconic scene from the movie *3 Idiots* resurfaces, with many fans sharing posts on social media referencing the date. However, some people may not be familiar with the movie or its significance. In one memorable scene, the character “Silencer” writes the date, September 5, on a concrete wall, but only those who have watched the film fully understand why.

The reason Silencer, played by actor Omi Vaidya, writes this date is tied to a pivotal moment in the movie. After delivering an embarrassing speech during the university’s Teacher’s Day event, he is mocked by Rancho, the protagonist. Rancho challenges Silencer to remember the date, promising that in 10 years, on that same day, he will return, more successful than ever. Humiliated, Silencer marks the wall with the date as a way of plotting his future revenge.

Interestingly, September 5 also holds special meaning in real life as India’s Teacher’s Day, a tribute to the country’s first Vice President and second President, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. A renowned teacher who taught at prestigious institutions like Presidency College and Calcutta University, Radhakrishnan’s birthday is on September 5. When his students wished to celebrate his birthday after he became president in 1962, he suggested they observe it as Teacher’s Day instead, remarking that it would bring him more joy than a personal celebration. As a result, while World Teacher’s Day is marked on October 5, in India, it’s celebrated on September 5.

3 Idiots, directed by Rajkumar Hirani and based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel, became a blockbuster when it was released in 2009. It resonated deeply with India’s youth and continues to be a beloved film, still frequently discussed even more than a decade after its release.

On September 5, the movie often trends on social media, with fans and even the cast revisiting its themes. Last year, Omi Vaidya shared a video referencing the famous scene. In the video, a voice resembling Rancho’s says, “Didn’t I say I’d be successful? This is my car, and behind it is my house.” Humorously, the car’s owner then corrects him, saying, “This car is mine.”
